Bike Lights & Birds — A Seasonal Lodi Crane Ride

USA

Overview

From late October through February, Sandhill Cranes make their yearly return to the Lodi region, making this ride a natural match for their migration. Reach the preserve at least 30 minutes before sunset so you have time to get settled before the evening spectacle. Seeing and hearing these ancient birds arrive and come together for the night is an experience that stays with you.

Anyone cycling back after dark should have proper lights on their bike. The roads become very dark, and safe travel home matters. Binoculars will help you see the cranes more closely, while a slower pace gives you time to enjoy the setting. Sunrise riders can take the same trip for a different, equally memorable perspective.

Optional stops along the route include Lodi Wine & Visitor Center, Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, and Oak Farm Vineyards.
