Overview

Couples, families, garden enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone seeking a calm outdoor experience in Lodi can enjoy this scenic setting.
The garden’s origins date to 1959, when Maseo “Duke” Yoshimura helped advance the creation of a Japanese garden intended to honor cultural heritage and strengthen ties between the Japanese American community and San Joaquin County. Nagao Sakurai, a distinguished landscape architect who had worked on the Imperial Palace gardens in Tokyo, later provided design guidance.
Today, the Japanese Garden is among Micke Grove Regional Park’s best-loved attractions. Guests can walk through its tranquil grounds, view the koi pond and waterfall, appreciate the changing beauty of cherry blossoms, and take a contemplative break before visiting nearby attractions, including Micke Grove Zoo, the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking paths.
The garden is also a sought-after Lodi wedding and ceremony venue. It provides three beautiful ceremony areas, an indoor Tea Pavilion, nearby restrooms, and convenient parking. Whether the visit is for a planned celebration or an opportunity to spend quiet time outdoors, the Japanese Garden at Micke Grove offers a memorable experience in Lodi, California.
