Macchia Wines is a family-owned and operated winery that has been making wines in the Lodi Appellation since 2001. In Italian, Macchia means “the spot.” For people exploring Lodi’s wine country, the winery has become a destination for small-lot wines, notable quality, and approachable prices.

Award-Winning Lodi Wines

Old Vine Zinfandel, one of Lodi’s signature varietals, is a specialty of Macchia. Each bottling is designed around its own personality and flavor profile, bringing forward the character of both the vineyard and the fruit.

The portfolio also includes thoughtfully made Italian and French varietals:

Every Macchia wine is vegan and gluten-free.

Meet the Winemaker

Jonathan McMahan is a second-generation winemaker who joined Macchia in 2002 and took on the role of head winemaker in 2017. His hands-on style centers on close relationships with growers and on allowing the grapes to express themselves in each bottle.

Over the course of his career, Jonathan has worked with many respected Lodi growers and winemakers. His accolades include:

• Winery of the Year – Monterey International Wine Competition
• Best Winemaker – El Dorado County Fair
• Back Room Gold – El Dorado County Fair
• Best of State – California State Fair for the Primitivo Meticulous

Jonathan and his team continue to follow Macchia’s long-standing philosophy: We won’t make it if it isn’t good! Their wines are shaped by quality, craftsmanship, and passion.

A Commitment to Quality

Macchia obtains small lots of premium grapes from several of California’s top wine-growing regions. The fruit is hand-picked, and each wine is made to reveal the distinctive character of its vineyard.

Although winemaking methods continue to change, Macchia holds to a straightforward belief: It’s all about the grape.
