Overview

The San Joaquin County Historical Museum brings the lively history of California’s Central Valley into view. Located within Micke Grove Park a short distance from downtown Lodi, this family-friendly attraction offers an immersive look at more than 150 years of regional heritage.

The story unfolds from the Yokuts and Miwok tribes through Captain Charles Weber, Stockton's founder and the area's first farmer, and into the development of modern agriculture. Across eight exhibition buildings and four historic structures, visitors can see the Charles Weber cottage (1847), Calaveras School (1866), dioramas displaying the Weber family's furnishings, a children’s gallery, and extensive collections of hand tools and agricultural equipment.

Historic settings include a one-room schoolhouse and blacksmith shop. Exhibits explore the region’s agricultural foundations, pioneering character, and changing communities, with rare artifacts and rotating displays highlighting local innovation and culture. Children can take part in the interactive Children’s Activity Center, and visitors should allow time to browse the Gift Shop.

The museum presents a varied experience for every age, from vintage tractors and handcrafted tools to stories about the area’s diverse peoples. A visit can be paired with a picnic beneath the tall oak trees of Micke Grove Park or combined with time at the nearby Micke Grove Zoo and Japanese Garden.

Every December, the museum holds the annual Festival of Trees Christmas event. Event listings are available through the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum's official website.
